Vivian Hartley arrived in Miami in 1941, trading the pace of New York for warm tides and pastel skies. Each morning, she swam long, luxurious laps in the Atlantic, letting the waves clear her mind. Still glowing from the ocean, she wrapped her damp hair in a soft white towel and strolled the promenade with a guava spritz in hand.

Her effortless style — a chic dress paired with a freshly tied towel — made her an unexpected but beloved icon of Miami’s coastal glamour. Vivian wrote travel columns for a local newspaper, often signing them “From Miami, with love.” In truth, she wasn’t just documenting the city’s golden moment — she embodied it.
