Heather’s version of Dorothy is almost a self- portrait and has a lot of meaning for her. As an Artist, Heather has always envisioned how she would like things to be and she considered that if she thought of things as beautiful and simple, they should just be that way. That did not mean that she did not need to work, but it just meant that there would be some type of magic and beauty in the ways things were created.  This piece is a tribute to the Wizard of Oz and Judy Garland as Dorothy and “Somewhere over the Rainbow.”  The flowers growing in Dorothy’s garden along the yellow brick road symbolize love, peace, happiness and dreams. The world would be so beautiful if everyone focused on these and helping others to attain them as well.  That is what this piece is about to Heather. It is about having dreams and creating them and not holding back, but creating them in a way that is joyful to all involved.

I love taking recognizable subjects and interpreting them through unexpected color, expressive details, texture and symbolism. Sometimes the result is whimsical. Sometimes it is deeply personal. Sometimes it is simply beautiful.
