This painting is a love letter to the Miami I grew up in—bright, flavorful, and full of family traditions. Some of my happiest memories are of sitting around the table at Lila’s Cuban restaurant, a place that felt as familiar as home. Our favorite waiter, Tony, knew our family so well that he had our orders memorized long before we arrived. My grandparents were friends with him, and he treated us like extended family each time we walked through the door.

Every meal was a celebration: the aroma of fresh café con leche drifting through the air, the golden flan that melted like velvet, the sweet guava pastries that made every visit feel like a special occasion. Those flavors became part of who I am, woven into the warmth of our time together.

Now, as a mother, those traditions continue. Whenever we travel to Miami for soccer games or to visit loved ones, we search for the best Cuban restaurant of the neighborhood. My own children order their favorites, savoring the same comforting tastes I grew up with.
